Crossing Waves is an installation that shows the relationship between sound waves and visual patterns in a vibrating continuum. For the Crossing Waves installation, specially programmed software has been designed that generates low sinusoidal frequencies. This constantly changing sound range makes water vibrate in a speaker and reveals the relationship between the sound frequencies and visual shapes it creates in the water. An HD microscope captures the image of the vibrations of the water. Because the frequencies are modulated in a randomly, the lines constantly change shape. From an almost static condition to a sonic tornado; the waves bend and overlap, reinforce or cancel each other. The image has been enlarged hundreds of times, revealing a fascinating moving soundscape that combines vibration and geometry. Crossing Waves shows fascinating moving water landscapes that are normally invisible, but present in our everyday environment and in us humans.
