Twisted Nematic

- Zoro Feigl

Twisted nematic refers to the twisting and aligning of tiny threads (nematics) under temperature change. The nematics align themselves in different setups under temperature change. These temperature-induced shifting of orientation influence the way they reflect light. These pigmented liquid crystals, therefore, can change color. This installation is using this phenomenon to create a shape-shifting form that is the result of the interplay between flow and density on a slowly rotating canvas, it becomes a moving real-life painting with water. The installation plays with altering the rotation movement, creating different effects with immiscible liquids of different density. Zoro Feigl is known for his artistic robotics, using motorized objects and forms that consequently create shapes and mesmerizing movements.
